The last weekend of matches for ACC's league season

Well, welcome to the last week of matches in our league season.

Don’t know quite where the last eighteen weeks have gone but although it hasn’t been a terrific season for club it has been remarkable that we have managed to play a full season, and managed to cope with the ever changing covid situation and subsequent regulations. We have only lost games to the weather and not due to having to isolate due to covid, unlike some other clubs.

The weather
The weather this week has not really changed much from last Saturday. Still light cloud and gentle breezes, temperatures 13 to 20 degrees and a 10 to 12% chance of rain in match play time.

Last week
Unfortunately games last week continued the disappointing results that the club has been suffering. None of our teams won over the weekend.

The ones lost to Old Hamptonians by 10 wickets, Baz Lineker being top scorer with 23.

The twos fared a little better losing to Old Pauline by 82 runs. Starnsey had remarkable figures of 10-5-9-1 Rob Maguire also took 3 wickets and with the bat Aaron Stace scored 23, Sadiq Mansoor 23 and Charlie Wootton 22no.

The threes faced Trinity Mid Whits and lost by 5 wickets. Uzair Sajjad 41, Branavan Harihan 22 and Vinay Malhotra 25.

The fourth team lost to Merton by 156 runs and thus ending any outside chance of gaining promotion. However Michael Dean had figures of 8-0-34-4 and top scored with 16, earning himself Adder of the Week. Well done Michael.

The Academy team on Sunday facing Trinity Mid Whits away came to an exciting last over finish. Addiscombe 136 a.o. 39.4 overs, TMW 137 for 8, 39.2 overs. Aaron Stace 26.

This week
This week’s matches are really for playing with pride to end the season with a last match win.

The third eleven game has a bit more at stake because of their league position and facing Worcester Park away, which could see them relegated if the right result not achieved. So good luck to Adam Stevens and the team. I’m sure you can do it.

The first team is at Sandilands 11.30 am with Sanderstead as our opposition. I’m sure that Sanderstead will be seeking revenge for the remarkable defeat that we pulled off when we played them earlier in the season.

The second team are away to Chessington. The fourth team play Trinity Mid Whits at 1743. Good luck to all teams.

Other news
There are no matches on Sunday. There will be no more games up Sandilands after today as Butch will be starting the winter renovations on the square and outfield. The nets will remain in use for a few more weeks for those who wish to use them, but no more official club training sessions.

End of season event tonight
The end of season social charity event supporting Mencap takes place in the bar after all matches are finished and players have returned to the club. There will be free curry on offer (but donations please), karaoke and Rochie has organised a raffle with some great prizes plus the auction of a Keeley bat.

Please do support, all members and friends welcome. Many thanks to Darren and Sue for putting on this for ACC.

Preparing Sandilands for winter - next Saturday
Packing away the covers and storing the sight screens for the winter will take place next Saturday 10am, volunteers to help needed. Many hands make light work and it should not take more an hour and a half.

Enjoy today’s cricket and tonight’s social event. See you up at the club.
Best wishes,
Roger
