Addiscombe welcomed one of the promoted sides, Old Hamptonians, to Sandilands this week. Addiscombe were looking to get back to winning ways after their first loss of the season.

Adie took charge of the warm up this week and put the team through their paces with some fancy exercises. The captain went to the pitch for the toss which was won by the Old Hamptonians skipper and Addiscombe were inserted to bat. He had obviously done his homework on the Addiscombe batting line up and was hoping for a quick game.

Addiscombe opened up with Lewis Noble and Dan Lineker. The opening pair got Addiscombe off to a good start playing some pleasant shots. Lewis Noble then tried to play one shot too many and was out caught for 15. 29-1.
Next man in was Aide Monk. A nice partnership began to develop between the two at the crease before Dan miss timed a full toss and was out caught for 25. Addiscombe were now 58-2.
This wicket brought Scott Benham to the crease. Fresh from his return from Dubai and after 3 weeks off Scott took a while to get going but once he did he and Adie began to put the runs on the board for Addiscombe. They put on 66 between them before Scott was out bowled. 124-3
In at number 5 was Barry Lineker but this was short lived and Barry was out for a duck. The score now 126-4
David Roche was the next man to the crease and this was also short lived as he was deceived by the slower ball and was bowled. 155-5
After the fall of wicket the next man to bat was James Ramsey. Ramsey and Monk put together a partnership of 51 which included Monk bringing up his century. Adie was then trying to pump one into Lloyds park and was caught on the boundary. Out for a superb 104. Addiscombe were now on 206-6.
The captain then decided to promote himself to number 8 and smashed his first ball over the boundary into the neighbours garden. The captain then made a bold move and declared at 50 overs.
Ramsey finished on 24 no and the captain on 7 no. Dhond, Starnes and Foden were not required for once.
Finally a great batting performance saw Addiscombe post 221-6 off of 50 overs.
A massive shout out and congratulations goes out to Adie Monk for his batting performance. Played some wonderful shots and never really looked in trouble. Even when he came down the track and swung himself back into the crease before he was stumped.

Teas were wonderful again and the Addiscombe players were over the moon to see pizza on the table. 9.1/10

Addiscombe then took to the field looking for the bowlers to back up the batting performance.
Opening up with James Ramsey and Charlie Foden Addiscombe began their push to the finish line.
The opening batsmen for Old Hamptonians got them off to a great start and the scoreboard began to tick over. Foden all of a sudden forgot how to do his run up and was replaced by the captain.
It was Ramsey who would pick up Addiscombe’s first wicket. The batsmen spent too long looking at his bat and he was pinned on the pad and out LBW. 50-1
The captain was replaced by Barry Lineker and Ramsey replaced by Antony Starnes. Both began to bowl exceptionally well and the runs started to dry up.
The pressure then took its toll on the number 3 batsmen. Trying a big heave against Starnes. He nicked off and the catch was taken by Scott Benham after a deflection off Aide Monk. 76-2
Lineker carried on bowling his line and length before deciding to mix it up and dropped one short. The batsmen went for the big shot and with the ball in the air Ramsey ran forward and took the catch. 118-3
Starnes was replaced by Benham and Foden replaced Lineker. Addiscombe went on search for the wickets that they required. This came from Foden as he bowled the batsmen who missed a full toss. Old Hamptonians were 136-4.
Addiscombe continued their push for wickets and Ramsey was brought back into the attack. However this did not come from our bowling instead a run out. Adi with the direct hit. 142-5
The very next ball Ramsey picked up number 6. Pinning the batsmen for LBW. The score was now 142-6 and Addiscombe were on top and going for the win.
The same could not be said about Old Hamptonians who decided the win was now out of their reach and decided to shut up shop.
Addiscombe threw everything at the Old Hamptonians batsmen but the wickets were not forthcoming. Addiscombe then picked up their last wicket after encouragement from the slip cordon the batsmen tried to hit the ball into Lloyds park and was bowled. 162-7
Old Hamptonians finished on 162-7 and Addiscombe finished off with the winning draw.
Wicket taking bowlers figures were James Ramsey 2-29 off 14 overs, Charlie Foden 2-36 off 11 overs, Barry Lineker 1-34 off 12 overs and Antony Starnes 1-27 off 8 overs.

A frustrating finish to the game but another great all round team performance from the 1st XI. Continue to play like that and the 1st XI will have a good season. Special mentions go out to Adie for a wonderful batting performance. Next up for the 1st XI is another home game this time against Kingstonian
