The Bahrain-based big hitter shares his ACC memories...

'The annual 6-aside events were always a day to look forward to. My nickname 'Slogger' came into full use!'
- Colin Sattar

Colin played for the ACC 1st XIs in the 1980s and 90s and is circled (far right) when Nottinghamshire CCC visited Sandilands in 1992 for a benefit match for the Notts and England batsman, Tim Robinson.

Name: Colin Sattar

Nickname: ‘Sats’ or ‘Slogger’

How would you describe yourself as a player? A bit like my old school report – an Under Achiever!

Best cricket memory?
Personally, my best innings for Addiscombe was in a Saturday 2nd XI game v Epsom where I scored 137 not out. But my best memory was when I was captain of the Sunday 1st XI and we took a very young side down to Tunbridge Wells and beat them.

Also, the annual six-a-side events were always a day to look forward to. My nickname 'Slogger' came into full use!

Most embarrassing cricketing moment? It was not the first time, but being run out by my dad on 49 in a Saturday 3rd XI game was a bad moment.

Favourite player/cricket hero? The West Indian all-rounder, Garry Sobers. I remember watching him back in 1968 on a black and white TV hitting Malcolm Nash for six 6s in a single over. I thought that would be great to do myself – and I’m still trying to this day!

(Editor: Watch Garry Sobers hit his six 6s in one over)

Favourite format to watch? Test Match Cricket all day long (some might say all week long)

Best thing about Addiscombe CC?
I arrived at the club some 49 years ago and my whole family, together with a lot of school friends, were made to feel most welcome.

My Dad, Roy Sattar, played for the club for many years and got lots of wickets, often mesmerising the opposition with his unique bowling action off the wrong foot. In his final cricket years he went onto umpire and many players liked fielding at square leg so they could get sweets from him.

I would compare coming back to the club as similar to visiting a relative - the door still remains open and there is always a friendly welcome.
