Name: Mark Butcher

Nickname: Butch

Best cricket advice you ever heard? Play the ball and not the man...

Best cricket memory:
For Surrey, my best memory was the first County Championship that my vintage won in 1999.

The best for England was being part of the team in 2003/4 which won a series in West Indies for the first time in 54 years (Editor: England won 3-0 and Butch scored the most runs in the series for England).

Most embarrassing cricketing moment:
Being carried off playing against Yorkshire in a county 2nd XI game after being hit in the box!

Who would captain your dream XI? Sir Viv Richards

Memories of playing against Addiscombe CC?
I remember taking a bag of wickets against Addiscombe at Cheam in 1989. The best part was pretending I’d got a finger on a ball struck back at me in my follow through, meaning my uncle, Martin Butcher, was given run out at the non-strikers’ end!

I let him get half way to the pavilion before I called him back...

As a musician, who would you rather support on tour, Jimi Hendrix or The Rolling Stones? The Stones. No one in their right mind would want to support Hendrix!

.................

Mark’s father Alan Butcher played for ACC in the 1970s his uncle, Martin Butcher, also played for ACC and has been the groundsman at Sandilands for many years.

Everyone at ACC sends their condolences to the Butcher family as this week Jackie Butcher, Martin and Alan's mum and Mark's grandmother, sadly passed away. Jackie and her husband were great supporters of Addiscombe CC for many years and our thoughts are with the whole Butcher family.
