His best memories of ACC and the day he played at Sandilands against his hero...

'Derek Randall was my cricketing hero, he was the best fielder in the world and it was great to play against him at Sandilands'
- Mike Rogers

Name: Mike Rogers

Nickname: Smash

How would you describe yourself as a player? Irritating

Best cricket memory? Its difficult to choose between two great memories. Firstly, leading ACC into the newly formed Premier League of the Surrey Championship in 1999 as 1st XI Captain.

And then secondly helping Andy Poulton gain the promotions which led the club back to the Surrey Championship in 2007-2009.

Most embarrassing cricketing moment? Splitting the webbing in my hand during the warm up when we played Guildford CC in 1999. I missed so many games that season.

Favourite player/cricket hero?
The former Nottinghamshire and England batsman Derek Randall, nicknamed 'Arkle' after the famous racehorse. Randall was the best fielder in the world in the 70s and 80s and was a real character. (Watch Randall's most famous innings of 174 v Australia in Melbourne 1977)

In the 1990s, Addiscombe hosted Notts CC twice at Sandilands for benefit matches for Tim Robinson and Randall. After the game Randall gave me his shirt and signed it. (In the photo above Mike is circled standing next to his hero. Also pictured are Test players Chris Cairns, Tim Robinson as well as a youthful Barry Lineker)

Favourite format to watch? Test

Best thing about Addiscombe CC? I have been a member since 1986 and played with old mates from Biggin Hill CC such as Hitesh Patel, Barry and Dave Lineker who also joined in the late 80s. The best thing has been making lifelong friends, some of whom now live in Melbourne, Bahrain, Dubai and Toronto to name a few.

It was brilliant to share a changing room with Addiscombe greats such as Mess, Butch, Bainy and Addy . Great memories of happy days...
