Wins for the 4s and 5s and a great innings by our one of junior members

'Mixed bag of results last weekend...but the 4s and 5s both got excellent wins'
- Roger Hurrion

The weather
Good sunny start to the day, with the next few days promising to be a mini heat wave.

Today temperatures are promising to rise to 24 degrees, sunny with gentle breezes. Only 3% chance of rain.

Last week
Matches last weekend were again a mixed bag of results.

The one’s losing to Streatham and Marlborough by 9 wickets and the twos lost by 47 runs to Purley and the threes lost by 105 runs to Wimbledon, Phil wise scoring 34.

However all was not gloom and doom, with the fourth team beating Beddington by 6 wickets. Joe Ruddy 3 for 27 and Connor McGrath 80 no.

Our most impressive victory of the weekend was our 5th team’s friendly match at Sanderstead, where the team scored 209, 155 of the runs being scored by Ayoub Khan, who is only 14 years old.

Ayoub hit 14 fours and 6 sixes in his incredible innings. He then went on to wicket keep and take two catches. His performance rightly earned him the accolade of “Adder of the Week”. Today Ayoub plays in the third team in their league match. Good luck Ayoub!

On Sunday our Development squad playing a pre-season friendly lost out to a strong Old Ruts side. The U11s lost their first game of the against Sanderstead off the last ball of the match, but the U13s and 14s won both their games.

In our Surrey Slam match Addiscombe Mitres won against Burbage Badgers (a team from Alleyns).

This week
This week sees the club participating in round six of our league matches, a third of the way through the season, and with all of our league teams sitting in the bottom half of their respective leagues so we could do with a few wins. So fingers crossed and good luck to all teams.

Today’s matches; the ones at home to Cheam 12 noon, the twos away to Merstham 12 noon, threes are away at Banstead, 1pm, and the fours face Old Wimbledonians at 1743 1pm. The fifth team have a friendly fixture away at Alleyn’s.

On Sunday our junior sides face Oxted and Limpsfield away (U11s), Spencer B, home 1743, (U13s) and Wimbledon home, Sandilands (U14s). All matches scheduled for 9.30 am.
In the afternoon Woodside are hosting a game at Sandilands.

On Tuesday evening there is a re-scheduled Surrey Slam match against Afghan United at Sandilands 5.45 pm. In the absence of Charlie Forden, Rochie will be captaining the side, thanks for stepping in Rochie.

Other news
Thanks to sponsorship from Demarc, our two new sight screens and roll on net, were delivered on Tuesday.

Two schools competition were held at the ground on Tuesday and Thursday, providing cricket for over a hundred children in the local community.

The junior section continues to grow in numbers and there were 5 new members joining last night at training. Our All Stars cricket programme, although small in number, run by junior coaches Peter Murphy and Nikhil Malhotra, run on Wednesday evenings, is proving successful.

The bar will of course be open this weekend and for the England match on Sunday 1pm till close. Moving forward the bar openings will be Wednesdays 6.30 –close, Fridays 6.30 –close, Saturdays 12- close.

Enjoy the sunshine and the cricket up at the club!

Best wishes,
Roger
