Good Morning All.
The weather and likelyhood of play
Except that it is far from it, looking out the window at the rain, which has been coming down for quite some time and according to the jolly old BBC forecast is likely to be around for most of the day. They predict heavy rain with a fresh breeze, temperatures between 10 to 17 degrees and a high percentage of rain up to 6pm.
In view of the dire weather predictions the Surrey Championship was going to issue a central decision to abandon the league program for today, considering the welfare of players and officials and covid regulations regarding club houses.
However that decision was withdrawn late last night and left with individual club teams having to mutually agree a decision to play or not. I would say that it is highly likely that our teams will not be playing, but who knows! Of course with the prospect of no cricket, or reduced playing according to conditions, then the bar will probably not be open.
Planned fixtures this weekend
The intended matches for today all starting at 12 noon are: 1s v Old Whits away, 2s at Sandilands v Kingstonian, 3s away to Merstham and the 4s at 1743 v Old Ruts.
There is also 5th team out again v Sanderstead away on the artificial wicket.
Tomorrow the 5s have a game at Sandilands against a Blackheath XI. There are no official
league games for our junior sides tomorrow, but some inter- club practice games have been arranged.
Last weekend's results
Results for teams playing last and during the week were very good. All our junior sides bar one won their league games.
Our first team playing Kings Hill won by 50 runs, Charlie Wootton 37 and Baz Lineker 3 wickets.
The second eleven also won against Kings Hill by 17 runs, Robbie Nariane
scoring 38 and Steve Horsler taking 5 for 17 off 8 overs and earning the title of Adder of the Week. Well done Steve and welcome to Addiscombe as one of our newest players!
The 3/4s also won against Battersea Badgers. One of our Academy players, Yash Vora hit a superb 63 not out and showed again his great potential.
The Strollers also had their first game of the season on Sunday playing against Beckenham Wizards, with the likes of 'old-boys' David Liddemore, Sean Crowie and Andrew Bellwood returning to play. The Strollers won by 86 runs, with Sean Crowie 52 and Cameron Armstrong 54 (both retiring) and Ollie Armstrong cracking his highest ever score of 45.
On Thursday night, our T20 Cup side won a nail-biter against Old Whits by just 1 wicket. Chasing 117, Charlie Wooten top scored with 21 but we kept losing wickets until skipper James Ramsey and number 11 Charlie Forden saw us over the line.
Full scorecards of all matches are available on our Play Cricket website.
Other news
Our first Surrey Slam T20 is due to be played at Sandilands on Monday 5.45pm, against Afghan XI. The bar will be open in the evening.
We also suffered some damage to our sight screens and one cover from the high winds during the week, but repairs are under way to remedy the situation.
Have a restful weekend.
