Cricket returns to Addiscombe!

'Other good news is that Raminder Singh has volunteered to take on the role of Colts Manager. Welcome and thanks Raminder!'
- Roger Hurrion MBE, Chairman

It looks like it is going to be a good weekend weather wise with sunny periods, gentle breezes, 20 degrees and only 3% chance of rain.

Which is just as well because, cricket returns to Addiscombe!

Yes, the government and the ECB have given the go ahead for games to go on
subject to certain conditions and social distancing. So to get up and running and back to playing there are inter club games this weekend at Sandilands and Addington 1743.

Only up to 30 people including players and officials can be involved in a match situation. Any spectators must keep away from these groups during the course of the game. See here for a list of the protocols to follow.

A First XI will be playing a Second XI up at Sandilands, at 11am, with the 3rd XI and 4th XI doing the same at Addington 1743, at 11.30am. Club members not playing today have a game tomorrow. See here for the teams for all matches.

A big thank you to Graham and Bob at 1743 and Butch at Addiscombe, who with very little notice, have pulled out all the stops to make pitches ready and get the game on. Good luck to everyone and have an enjoyable game.

New Colts Manager
Another pleasing piece of news this week. Since James Ramsey “retired” as colts manager to take up as first team captain,we have been looking for a suitable replacement. I pleased to say that Raminder Singh has volunteered to take on the role. Raminder has two sons playing at the club and has been helping out with junior sides for a couple of years. Welcome and thank you Raminder.

And on this in cricketing history...

  • July 11th 1884: Test cricket started at Old Trafford with a match v Australia.
  • 11th July 1930: Don Bradman scored the fastest double century in a test match for Australia against England at Headingley. in just 214 minutes. He went on to score 334, which at that time was the highest individual score in test cricket.
  • 11th July 2020: Addiscombe CC returned to cricket!

Best wishes, keep safe and well, enjoy the weekend,
Roger
