Another trio of ACC players from one family: meet Abaid, Haris & Uzair

Last year Abaid and Haris joined ACC for the 2020 season and this year their brother Uzair joined them. We ask the brothers some key cricketing questions...

...................................

How would you describe yourself as a player?

Abaid: A top order batsman who bowls a bit in the nets!

Haris: Steady medium pacer who fancies himself as a middle order batsman

Uzair: I was a tearaway left armer in my teens, but I never got any quicker! When batting I used to copy Rahul Dravid but I couldn't score a run. Now I'm trying De Villiers. Still can't score a run

Who is your cricketing hero?

Abaid: Kohli and Sangakkara but De Villiers probably takes the lead for his sheer skill.

Uzair: Younis Khan, Rahul Dravid, Hashim Amla

Haris: Imran Khan has to come out on top after 1992 World Cup win and Wasim Akram is not far behind. I’m an admirer of KP, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers.

What is your best cricket memory?

Uzair: Pakistan’s Lords win in 2016 sticks out. Also watching a Test in Newlands Cape Town was very memorable.

Abaid: Watching Pakistan beat India in 2017 to win the Champions Trophy. Kohli’s wicket was the best moment, a whirlwind of emotion!

Haris: Taking 4-12 against Old Whits

What cricket issue do you argue about?

Abaid: The state of Pakistan’s batting, although we agree it’s not the best

Haris: Mainly the Pakistan cricket team but recently there is not much to argue about

Uzair: Whether we should accept after more than 2 decades of watching them that maybe Pakistan just aren't very good!

Any cricketing stories about your brothers?

Haris: Uzair once got booed by the parents of teammates in a school game for batting too cautiously…but his obstinate stay at the crease eventually won them the game!

Abaid: Haris nearly ended his cricketing career when he attempted a freestyle trick on a dune buggy in Dubai. Luckily the fall wasn’t enough to break him - but he does get injured a lot.

Uzair: Just watching Haris run between the wickets is always good fun! Garden cricket was ultra-competitive growing up. Abaid was so angry after getting out once he banged the shed door and took it off its hinges!

Thanks chaps - and all the best in your matches tomorrow!
