Dramatic last over wins for ACC's 3rd and 4th XI - plus some great individual performances

With 8 runs needed to win, Tristan Dennis cleared the ropes twice to win the 4s match in style in the final over

Saturday matches v Purley: wins for the 3rd and 4th XI while the 1st and 2nd XI lost. The Adders lost to Sanderstead but an Addiscombe XI beat Trinity Mid-Whits on Sunday. On Thursday we lost to Afghan Utd in the T20 Surrey Slam.

THANKS
Thanks to everyone in the 3rd XI (and to Graham Jones at Addington 1743) for playing their game early so that two matches could be fitted in at Addington. This enabled the 4th XI to play later as Purley had no available ground. Particular thanks to Nikhil Malhotra, Tom Smith and Jared Cruickshank who then left the 3rd XI match and went direct to play for the Adders after late pull-outs affected their team.

HIGHLIGHTS
On Thursday, Charlie Armstrong hit a fine 53 for the Mitres in the T20 with some clean hitting. Curtis Rose (23) and Charlie Wooton (23) offered support but with light fading badly, we fell short by 40 runs. After a good run in the Surrey Slam this meant we just failed to qualify through to the next stage. Well done to Charlie Forden for leading a good T20 campaign.

For the 1st XI at Sandilands, wickets were shared with Charlie Forden, Adi Dhond, Dan Lineker and Chris Hurrion all taking 2 wickets. In response, We fell 85 runs short with Barry Lineker at no10 top scoring with 26 and Lewis Noble 24 and Chris Hurrion 20.

It was a similar story with the 2nd XI after Purley scored 203 off their 40. Ollie Armstrong 2-23 and Vivek Patel 2-22 and Scott Benham 1-17 off 8 overs were the pick of the bowlers. In response we fell 100 runs short with Kash Hassan top scoring with 33. It was a shame to end with a loss but it has been a very positive season for the 2s.

The 3rd XI were bowled out for just 103 in the early 10am start at Addington. Stand-in skipper Jack Stone top-scored with 28 with ‘Senior Pro’ Robbie Naraine scoring 24.

But our bowling was good with Jared Cruickshank leading the attack with 3-13. In support, Shafkat Mehmood got 2-7, Tom Smith 2-17 and Perenavaan Waran 2-19 as we restricted their score and got regular wickets. It came down to the final over with 8 needed with one wicket left. Jack Southwell bowled it and first ball was hit out to Pete Murphy and the batsman went for a two. Pete’s return was wide but spritely ‘keeper Robbie Naraine gathered the ball and threw down the stumps to seal a dramatic win by just 6 runs.

Against our 4th XI Purley scored 156 with Prashant bowling tight and Jack Algar and Tristan Dennis getting 2 wickets each. In response, Hafiz Adam scored 41 (with 3 sixes) and Tristan Dennis scored a magnificent 85* (with 5 sixes). With 8 needed, Tristan cleared the ropes twice to win the match in style in the final over. It was a great way to end a very positive season for the 4s and Skipper Vinay Malhotra was very happy.

The Adders XI travelled to Sanderstead. Sanderstead scored 163 with Al Wildsmith 2-24 and Thiru Ramasamy 2-13. But Danny Sampson was the pick of the bowlers with the great figures of 6 overs, 3 maidens, 4 runs and 3 wickets. In response ACC were all out for 81 after a slightly unusual split innings to accommodate players who had to come late. Thanks to Sanderstead for their flexibility and well done to Ewan MacMillan for leading the Adders with such enthusiasm.

An ACC Sunday XI beat Trinity Mid-Whits in a friendly. Matt Stratten (in discussions about a red-ball contract with ACC after only playing T20 this season) showed his class with a quick 58. Jon Kuhrt got 20 and we got 197-9. Wickets were shared as we bowled out TMW for 139 with Jack Southwell getting 2-20 and Matt Stratten twirling out 2-6.
