1s beat Streatham & Marlborough, 2s tie a thriller and the Adders win by 1 wicket in final over

A good win for the 1st XI, a nail-biting victory for the Adders by one wicket, and the 2nd XI ended scores level with the oppo for a tie

A good win for the 1st XI and a nail-biting last over victory for the Adders XI this Saturday. The 2nd XI tied a thrilling match at Sandilands and the 3rd XI lost. The 4th XI had their game called off due to the weather and the Academy XI lost their final league match on Sunday.

HIGHLIGHTS
For the 1st XI at Streatham and Marlborough Charlie Forden continued his good form with 4-38, Chris Hurrion got 3-22 and Barry Lineker bowled 8 overs for just 14 runs as we restricted the oppo to 150. In response, newly promoted Curtis Rose scored 24, Dan Lineker 37 and Alex Roberts 31* to chase down the target with 5 wickets in hand.

The 2nd XI batted first and had a bad start at 10 for 3 and then 25 for 4. But Kash Hassan, with an excellent 62, and David Roche with 33 rescued us with a fine partnership. With skipper Antony Starnes again batting well for 35 and strong last wicket partnership by Ali Rajah and Rob Maguire meant we posted 197.

In response Streatham & Marlborough lost regular wickets but kept up with the run rate. Ali Rajah (1-27) and Rob Maguire (2-31) bowled well and Rochie and Jon Kuhrt also got 2 wickets each. With 14 needed to win off the final over, their captain hit 13 runs and just avoided being run out from the last ball. The match was tied with scores level.

The 3rd XI were chasing Streatham and Marlborough’s 166 but they were bowled out for 121. Again a number of players made starts with Tom Smith 21, Arun Gupta 23 and Peranavaan Waran 23, but we lost by 45 runs.

The Adders XI travelled to Woodmansterne to play their 3rd team. On a tricky wicket, we bowled out Woodmansterne for 126 with Max Newark-Symonds getting 3-12 and Alastair Wildsmith 2-12.

Then in response skipper Ewan MacMillan got 21, Danny Kuhrt 26 and Mike Dean 28. But after a bit of collapse, we needed 8 runs off 10 balls with just one wicket left. Last wicket pair Al Wildsmith and Saju Raguseelan got them over the line with Saju hitting a four to win the match.

On Sunday, the Academy XI played Purley for their last league match. Peravanaan Waran continued his excellent batting on Sundays with 61 but ACC were bowled out for 144. Addiscombe’s bowling was good, with Jared Cruickshank bowling especially tightly, but Purley batted well and reached the target after 31 overs with just 3 wickets lost.
