Addiscombe Secure Second Win

Addiscombe U15's travelled to S&M for our first match of the season due to the fixture being rearranged for the 12th May. Losing the toss we were asked to bat first and went out with early season vigour to post a big score. Unfortunately, this didn't materialise with very few of the top order capitalising on their starts. Nikhil suffered an unforunate run out and then Tom Smith was bowled for 14. Aaron, Yash and Joseph were unable to add any impetus and suddenly we were 28-5 off 5 overs. Coach Stace realising at this point that there was a great danger of not bowling out the 24 overs; credit then to Hamzah for changing the impetus with a swift 10 runs and then critically Tom Kuhrt who came in and steadied the ship top scoring with a crucial 25 runs. Batting around him were Cameron with 11 and Jared who at No 10 scored a cracking counter attacking 17 in 18 balls. Consequently, a total of 107 was posted, the last 4 wickets posting an additional 79 runs, which was something at least for the bowlers to aim at.

Returning to the field to defend our total it was crucial we kept things tight and tried to get early wickets. This was achieved to great effect with a run out off the first ball with a direct hit from Cameron. The energy levels and 'chat' was excellent with encouragement to all bowlers and fielders. As we kep the early pressure high, Tom Smith bowled their opener and Tom Kuhrt got a wicket (bowled) and a stumping off his overs, a dismissal that always ensures big grins from both spinner and wicket keeper. There were also good catches in the field from Cameron and Joseph. Captain Aaron then handed the ball to Jared to maintain the pressure and in two overs he provided the amazing figures of 2 overs, 1 maiden, 5 for 3 which all but killed the game off, S&M finally all out for 25 off 11.5 overs.

A great start to the season and one to provide encouragement for sterner tests ahead.
