Mature Performance Beats Strong Rivals

A mature and strong performance by the U15's saw them win their third straight match and, for this group of players, their best ever start to a league season. Welcoming Spencer to Sandilands, historically always a strong side and one we have never beaten, Addiscombe lost the toss and were invited to bat first. After an initial wobble which saw Nikhil Malhotra bowled to the third ball of the innings Aaron came in to bat with Tom Smith and the two bedded down for the longest partnership we've ever seen from the team. Complementing each other styles very well (Tom finding the boundaries fairly regularly, Aaron more happy to accumulate) they batted for approximately 22 overs together; Aaron finishing on 57 n.o having been in for all but 3 balls of the 24 overs and Tom out in the 22nd over for a fantastic 105. A superb effort from both players resulting in a partnership of 185 and ultimately a total of 203 -3 for Spencer to chase down.

Taking to the field we were fully aware of the strong batters Spencer possess and true to form the early overs saw them start well scoring easily six an over to stay with the run chase. We fielded well though and it was good to see all the practice paying off with players chasing down boundary balls together, backing up and generally striving to give nothing away. Consequently it took a fantastically taken caught and bowled, low to his left, by Jared to break the opening partnership and for Addiscombe to believe they could take the wickets required to win the game. As the overs progressed we continued to take wickets at crucial times to stall our opponents progress. Jared added another wicket to his tally, Tom Smith got two wickets and Ani Vikram and Joseph Murphy both got a wicket each. Tom Kuhrt bowled a fine spell with figures of 5-0-3-21 which ensured we kept things very tight. In the end it fell to James Duffy to get the final wicket and bowl Spencer all out for 124.

Tom Smith deservedly took home the match ball for his man of the match performance in scoring a fine century and taking two wickets.

A fine win and one which provides confidence going into a difficult run of matches ahead.
