The U15's returned to Sandilands keen to put their close loss to Dulwich the week before behind them. Winning the toss, Captain Aaron decided to field and asked Purley to bat first. Purley started well and after 4 overs were on 26 for no loss. After this Jared and Max began to apply pressure, with Max (4-0-16-1) striking first, claiming one of their opening batsman LBW (Ump Malhotra taking an age to give it!) for 18. This was a much better day for the spinners with Cameron and Tom Kuhrt bowling in tandem, tying the Purley batsman down and successfully restricting their run rate. Tom K finishing with a couple of wickets (5-0-12-2) and Cameron with one (4-1-11-1). During the middle overs there were a couple of wickets for Aaron, with his Jimmy Anderson style swing (3-0-5-2) and also a surprise bowling appearance from James who kept things tight as well. Towards the end of the innings Nikhil also produced a couple of wickets with his 'interesting swerve' run up style (3-0-10-02) which resulted in Purley finishing their innings on 82-8. As always there was great commitment in the field by all to prevent giving away any unnecessary runs.
Going into bat it was important the boys didn't let the week before get into their minds. Tom Smith and George opened the batting and apart from a single chance given to Purley, which wasn't taken, the two batted very sensibly fully aware that the required run rate was low and there wasn't any need to take any risks. In the end Tom Smith scored 34 and George 38, Addiscombe winning in the 14th over without the loss of a wicket. Tom, reliable as ever but great to see George get his first score for the team this season.
All in all, a fine result and one to put to bed the disappointment of the week before.
