A woeful performance from the 1st XI sees them lose.

Addiscombe CC v Kingstonian CC
15th June 2019
Sandilands

Kingstonian CC – 229-6 (48 Overs)
Addiscombe CC – 111 all out (27.5 Overs)
Kingstonian CC win by 118

This week saw Addiscombe welcome to Sandilands Kingstonian who had come down from the league above. Addiscombe were looking to build on their good performance from the previous week.

After a week of terrible weather Addiscombe arrived to find the ground in tip top condition which is a testament to work that was put in by the groundsman.

Addiscombe’s warm up was hampered by the fact that it took half hour to untangle the rope from the week before. The captain won the toss and decided to field first.

Addiscombe opened the bowling with Charlie ‘Foden’ Forden and with an absent Rambo the other opener was Sayeed Shafaq. It took a while for Addiscombe to pick up their first wicket. This came after Forden had bowled the opener. 36-1.
With the pitch being a bit soft the captain turned to spin and brought on Scott Benham. It was however Forden who would pick up the next wicket. Caught by Lewis Noble. Kingstonian were now 42-2.
Forden would then turn into the assistor grabbing a catch off Benham. 64-3.
It would be Scott Benham who would pick up the next wicket for Addiscombe. This time the catch was taken by Shafaq. Things were looking promising for Addiscombe at 69-4.
Benham and Forden were replaced by Antony Starnes and Barry Lineker but the two men at the crease began to frustrate Addiscombe in their search for wickets. With some big shots and quick runs the scoreboard was ticking over nicely.
The captain then turned back to spin bringing himself and Dan Lineker into the attack and it was latter who would make the breakthrough for Addiscombe. Bowling the batsmen. 154-5
The next man would go on to make a partnership with the current batsmen which frustrated Addiscombe again. The captain unlucky not pick himself up a wicket after two drop catches from an unknown fielder.
Forden was brought into the attack again along with Adi Dhond. It would be Forden who would pick up Addiscombe’s last wicket caught by Dan Lineker. 215-6.
The Kingstonian captain then declared on 229 after 48 overs.
The wicket taking bowling figures were Charlie Forden 3-41 off 10 overs, Scott Benham 2-34 off 8 overs and Dan Lineker 1-20 off 4 overs.
A lacklustre performance from the bowlers and the fielders saw Addiscombe disheartened at the halfway stage. We all knew we were better than that performance.

For the second time this season there were no pizzas at tea. 3/10

Addiscombe were looking to chase a reachable total down and all we needed was a good start.
Openers were Lewis Noble and Dan Lineker. It was down to these two to get Addiscombe going. Lewis Noble out for a duck. 0-1
Next Man in was the run machine Adi Monk and it was now down to him to start the Addiscombe innings off. Out for a duck. A semi professional footballer but could not kick the ball away from the stumps. Instead on to the stumps. 0-2
Okay not exactly the start we wanted but we could always rebuild with the next man in Scott Benham. Out for 1. Addiscombe were now 5-3 and staring down the barrel already.
Roche was the next to the crease. Matters then only got worse when Roche decided to run past one off the spinner and was stumped. 16-4.
Bad memories of a game in 2008 when players involved in this game were bowled out for 25 began to creep in.
Adi Dhond came to the crease and started to put a partnership together with Lineker before Lineker was caught for 23. The score now 31-5.
This brought the captain to the crease and boy did Addiscombe need a captains performance from him. Out for 1. 34-6. The game now all but over for Addiscombe.
Barry Lineker was the next man to the crease and maybe he could call upon some of his experience to get Addiscombe out of his predicament. Out for 2. 48-7
The next man to the crease was Antony Starnes. Confident he was going to score his first ever Ton he began to dispatch the spinner to all parts of the ground.
A nice little partnership between Starnes and Dhond saw Addiscombe reach 84-8 before Dhond CT&B for 22.
A new bowler was brought on and it worked magic for Kingstonian as Starnes was then out caught the next ball. 84-9
The two new batsmen were at the crease Shafaq and Forden. After some wonderful hitting from Shafaq he was stumped and Addiscombe were all out for 111.

A dreadful performance all round from the 1st XI this week saw them suffer their second defeat of the season. We know we can perform much better than that. The first blip in the season for the 1st XI.

Next the 1st XI travel to Epsom. We know we cannot perform like this against Epsom who sit top of league.
