ACC 2's make it 3 out of 3 under new Skipper 'Lineker' and move upto 3rd in Division 3 2nd XI

Captain Marvel does it again
ACC 238 for 7 (D.Lineker 63*, D. Roche 61) beat Cobham Avorians 83 (B.Lineker 5-23) by 155 runs
On the back of consecutive wins, the 2's merry band travelled to basement team Avorians optimistic that they could add to their recent good form. With a nice early meet to get us in the mood, it soon turned problematic as we all decided that we didn't want to drive and instead get 'gassed' after the game. After a 20 minute stand-off, Starnsey and Pee Wee caved in and decided to drive.
As is now tradition, BL lost the toss and we were asked to bat first. After his brief appearance in the 1's, Stevens opened up with Hurrion. After a few overs, it was clear that Stevens was trying to do his best impression of the Third Reich and had intent on a long occupation. Avorian's quickly stifled his flick of his hip to square leg and I swear at one stage they had 8 men at square leg. Hurrion at the other end looked in good nick once again (apart from his continued misses against the short balls). He looked set for another 50 before he played round a straight one and was LBW for 37 with the score on 60.
Dhond strode in at 3 and with the field brought in, decided first ball he would try and bush the bowler over the top. With a zorro-type swish of the blade, he only succeeded in holing out to mid-on, looking a prized tool and contributing to the fines fund. Stober (1) fared little better and we were quickly back on our heels at 62-3.
With Brigadier Block (Stevens) at the crease along with Roche, we needed to consolidate. With the overs starting to get above runs, Stevens decided on 22 that he needed to tick the score along and he too fell (62-4). The A's were in trouble.
Enter DL. He and Rochie played beautifully and positively as the runs gathered. Rochie chanced his arm but was successful in clearing the ropes a number of times as Avorians ran out of options. Rochie went to a terrific 50 (on a dropped catch) but departed soon after when trying to accelerate. Cowlin (23) joined DL at the crease and again looked in good nick before he fell.
DL brought up a brilliant first 50 for the 2's as we looked to declare. Some late order runs saw us declare on 238 off 42.5 overs to give us sufficient time to force a victory.
ln the field, the A's took the old ball with BL and GB. In wasn't long before they both picked up a wicket as Avorians fell to 6-2.
Runs was never going to be the issue, it was whether we could get the remaining wickets before failing light and the rain halted us. BL continued wheeling away at one end, whilst at the other end the bowling was rotated.
BL brought up his third consecutive 5-fer (a truly amazing achievement), before Cowlin showed his class by finishing off the tail with 3-5 to dismiss the oppo for an emphatic victory. We never gave up throughout the game and another win really puts us in the mix.
It was great to return to the club to see a clean sweep for all 4 sides. The first of many we hope.
