Addiscombe fielded a team with 4 colts, 3 of whom were making their senior debuts. We lost the toss and were put in on a tricky pitch at Sanderstead Rec. We lost Steve Hasler early and Callum Dias shortly afterwards but Jon Kuhrt and Wakil put on a good partnership and after 20 overs, Addiscombe were well set at 88-2. New 4s Skipper, Kuhrt was bowled for 40 and this triggered a collapse which saw only Brandon Dias (11) and Wakil get into double figures. Wakil played well for 29 but Addiscombe were all out for 115.
We had tea in hope as we were told that any score over 100 was defendable on that pitch and so it proved. We bowled and fielded superbly with Wakil fast and lively and always threatening. U14 left-armer Arayan Purohit opened the bowling from the other end and was on the money and Sanderstead could only score around 1.5 runs an over. Legspinner Tom Kuhrt came on first change and bowled tight, frequently beating the batsman with sharp spin and few bad balls. Aaron Dias also bowled pretty well but his shorter balls were punished. Danny Kuhrt came on and was also accurate and threatening. We got regular wickets but Sanderstead's batsman gave us a lesson in staying in and pushing it around. But it remained tight and and we continued to pick up wickets. Danny K and Wakil later came back on and got 4 wickets between them.
Sanderstead stayed in touching distance and in the end crossed the line with just 2 wickets left and only 9 balls left in the match. It ended up as a great game of cricket - Addiscombe just needed 30 more runs and that would probably have been enough. We fielded excellently with almost all chances taken and very few byes or misfields. A great example was a superb slip catch by Steve Hasler off a Danny Kuhrt - the only problem was it was no-ball! But overall very bowling performances from a very young bowling attack:
Wakil 2-13 off 9 overs
Aaryan 2-28 off 9
Tom K 1-17 off 9
Aaron D 0-15 off 6
Danny K 3-10 off 7
So well bowled and fielded Addiscombe but next time we just need more runs!
