Ewan comes up trumps.

Playing home to Cheam
ACC 107 for 6 of 22 overs - Cheam 100 for 9 of 22 overs
ACC win by 7 runs

Following overnight rain we were faced with a wet pitch and square and a slightly soggy outfield. We delayed the start to allow some of the early morning sun to dry the pitch but it didn't do much. The game was reduced to 22 overs each.

Put in on the wet pitch Jack (17) and Ewan (33*) made a good start scoring regularly until the first wicket fell in the seventh over. Jack fell to straight one (again) after looking very good. We then lost two wickets cheaply, and Ewan was joined at the crease by Usama (19) who struck the ball nicely to the boundary but got caught going for another big one. Throughout the innings the score was kept ticking over but we did have a couple of slow spells which in the end restricted our final score to 107. With wickets in hand we should have looked to push on a bit earlier and take on the sharp singles and punish the bad balls more. All credit to the Cheam bowlers who bowled well throughout. Ewan, Jack and Usama all batted very well, it was good to see Ewan manage to reach the magical 30 and retire for the first time whilst playing for us.

Without Finn or Reegan playing today defending 107 was not straight forward, we would have to field and bowl well and most importantly cut out the wides!
In the absence of Finn, Callum was given opportunity to open the bowling and didn't let us down. He bowled very nicely, returning firgures of 1 for 14 off his four overs. Usama opened the other end and concentrated more on accuracy than on speed looking very good in the process only going for 16 from his four overs.
Halfway through the overs, scores were neck and neck, with Cheam playing some good shots to keep their score ticking over. Daniel had a good spell of 1 for 10 off three overs, getting his wicket with his speciality skyer delivery. Omar, Brendan, Adam and Steven joined in the attack each bowling well. Debutant Robert had one over where he mangaed to take two wickets and bowl three wides, one of these wickets was their no.3 who was looking very strong, so this could well have a been a turning point in the game.
Ewan alternated ends during his first two overs but bowled accurately within his fours overs; he was left to bowl the last over with the result able to go either way. Cheam required 10 runs from the final over with 4 wickets in hand. Ewan then proceeded to take three wickets and concede only two runs, leaving us worthy winners.
The fielding performance was the best we have done all season, finally the long barrier is getting used by everyone, well done Grace! Usama, Daniel and Ewan all took good catches, with Brendan making a great effort at extra cover diving fully stretched to the ball but not quite managing to keep hold of it.

A good performance all round! Bring on Streatham and Marlborough, a win on Sunday could leave us finishing second in the league.
