The U13's welcomed Cheam to Sandilands and after winning the toss (4th time in succession for lucky captain Aaron!) decided to field first. Unfortunately, things got off to a poor start and Cheam were allowed to race away being on 45 after the first four overs. Eventually, the fielding and bowling tightened up somewhat and wickets fell regularly, pegging Cheam back. However, although they were eventually bowled out in the 24th over a very challenging total of 179 had been posted. Mentions must be made to Nikhil, Haseeb (who bagged two wickets) and Tom Kuhrt who kept things fairly tight in their spells. Also to Kieran for bagging a wicket with his bowling as well.
So onto the batting and early on things didn't quite go to plan with early top order wickets falling to leave Addiscombe with a mountain to climb. Special mention must therefore go firstly to Aaron Stace in the middle order who steadied the ship and then accelerated to 30, retired, and then returned to finish on 41 from 40 balls, a fine effort. This was eclipsed however by Tom Kuhrt who also reached 30 and retired before returning to finish on 55 from 40 balls with 8 fours and a strike rate of 137, a fantastic effort.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to win the game with Addiscombe finishing on 147 all out. Yet it was a batting performance of character and one that restored a bit of pride plus a feeling of what might have been if those early runs hadn't been conceded!
