Rain doesn't Stop Play

Surprisingly, given the hottest day of the year on Wednesday, we awoke on Sunday morning to rain, and lots of it! Arriving at the ground it was still tipping it down and a 50/50 decision as to whether the game would go ahead or not. With lots of parents huddled under the awning we eventually realised that the only people not sheltering from the rain was the kids who were quite happily practising, despite the conditions. So game on!

At the toss both teams clearly wanted to field first; the ball was obviously going to keep low and be skiddy on a wet pitch. Roehampton won and, unsurprisingly, asked Addiscombe to bat.

So applying themselves well they boys slowly accumulated runs well and managed to achieve a total of 320 but with a loss of nine wickets meant a net total of 266. Top scorers being Ishaan and James both with nine runs. Then, with the weather gods totally against us, no sooner had our innings finished the rain stopped and the clouds lifted.

Into the field then; a much improved performance from the bowlers saw tighter lines and very few extras given away. Honourable mentions in the field go to Aaron for injuring himself twice slipping on the outfield in making two run outs and Janam Shah who stopped a certain four with a fine mid air stop with his hands which deflected onto his head causing him to see stars for a while! He got his reward though by taking two wickets during his spell.

Ultimately our good work proved too much for Roehampton and with nine wickets taken they posted a net total of 203.

So a great win for the U11's which sets us up well for our final away match to Tadworth next week.
