A nail-biting win for the 1st XI v Sanderstead plus wins for 3s and 4s last week

'Yasir Tufail scored an excellent 95 for the 4th XI in their win by a whopping 169 runs v Trinity Mid-Whits'
- Roger Hurrion, Chairman

The weather
No evidence of the predicted overnight rain this morning, however the covers were put on at Sandilands as a precaution.

The weather today is supposed to be light rain and showers with temperatures from 12 to 18 degrees and 55 to 60% chance of rain during match hours.

Last week
Fighting spirit was very much in the games last week with three wins out of four in the league competitions.

Nail biting game at Sanderstead for the ones, winning by 6 runs, with Dan Lineker, as stand in captain, scoring 28 and taking 3 wickets. You can watch highlights of the match here.

The twos lost against Chessington by 101 runs, however Starnsey had bowling figures of 11-2-13-3.

Our threes beat Worcester Park by 27 runs, Jon Kuhrt scoring 26 and taking 3 wickets, Jack Southwell 24, and Amal Babu 4 wickets.

The fours beat Trinity Mid Whits by a whopping 169 runs. Yasir Tufail scored an excellent 95 (well batted and hard luck on missing the century Yasir!) and Danny Kuhrt, making his debut as wicket keeper, also making his maiden fifty for the club (54) and being made Adder of the Week. Congratulations Danny.

The fifth team lost in their friendly against Sanderstead.

With those results, and half way through the season our league positions are as follows:
1st XI - 9th, 2nd XI - 7th, 3rd XI - 6th, 4th XI - 3rd. Vinay tells me he is now pushing for promotion!

Junior update
Our Junior section is doing very well, with our U11s winning last night against Epsom and being joint top with Sanderstead in their league. The U13s are second placed in
their division, and the U14s are top of theirs.

This week
Fixtures for today: The ones at home to Old Whits, 12 noon, the twos away to Kingstonian 12 noon, the threes at 1743 v Merstham 1 pm, the fours away to Old Ruts 1 pm,
and the fives have a friendly against Banstead at Sanderstead Rec. on the non-turf wicket 1pm.

Tomorrow our junior section have matches against Oxted and Limpsfield (U11s, 1743, 9.30 am) Old Ruts (U13s, away, 9.30 am) and Wimbledon ( U14s, away, 2 pm). The game against Ruislip Orientals has been cancelled.

Good luck to all our teams playing today and tomorrow.

News from the club
The bar will be open from 2 pm today and tomorrow at 2pm for the Wimbledon finals and of course the Euro finals at 8pm. Come on England!

The score box has also been refurbished this week with the introduction of LED numbers and the future capacity of on-line scoring to Play Cricket. A little bit of remedial work
both inside and out to the building will see a finished overhaul. No more sticking numbers!

Hope to see you up at the ground Saturday and Sunday.

Best wishes,
Roger
