6. Rob Maguire, Treasurer

Name: Rob Maguire

Nickname: Lizzie

Club Role: Treasurer and 2nd XI bowler

How would you describe yourself as a player? A combative bowler. I am not happy with mis-fields and don’t get me started on umpires who don’t give plumb LBWs

How long have you played at Addiscombe? 2020 will be my 18th Season

What is your best cricketing memory? The entire U15 colts season was brilliant. One match particularly stands out when we played Selsdon CC at Sandilands. It was a top of the table clash and very close.

We needed two to win and in the last over we lost our 9th wicket. As number 11, I walked out to face the last ball. At that age I had even less batting pedigree than I have now. I was crazily nervous but I managed to hit the ball but it went straight to a close fielder. I set off for a run and just made it. I was so chuffed that I kept sprinting off towards the clubhouse and forgot that we needed 2 to win. We tied the match but it felt like a win and we celebrated big afterwards in the changing rooms.

We ended up winning the league and it was a great team and a lot of fun. A lot of that group are still playing at the club like Starnesy, Lewis, Dan Lineker, Sam Dennis and Rambo.

What is your most embarrassing moment on a cricket pitch?
When playing for the 4s a few years I back, I just had to block out one ball to save the match with a draw. But I got out and I still feel bad about it. Apologies to Lee Ramsey who was the 4s skipper!

If you could be any player, past or present, who would it be? Jimmy Anderson, or failing that, Antony Starnes

Favourite format to watch:
ODI

Predictions for Addiscombe's 2020 season: 1s to batter Sanderstead home and away and 2s to have a promotion push.

Why is Addiscombe CC a great club to join? Extremely friendly family club with excellent facilities at both home grounds. Also, we have superb facilities for paying your subs online which cuts down untold hassle for the Treasurer.
