9. Roger Hurrion MBE, Chairman

Name: Roger Hurrion

Nickname: I don’t think I have one although some of the members might have one for me! (Editor: In his interview Starnsey did refer to ‘Super Rog’ so that’s one for starters)

Club Role: Chairman, Club Welfare officer, fixture secretary, stand in scorer & umpire, general factotum.

How would you describe yourself as a player? I am an enthusiastic participant!

How long have you played at Addiscombe? I have been involved for over 22 years. I first got involved when my sons Andy and Chris got involved in the Colts. I got drawn in to manage a team and then to run the whole colts set up.

What is your best cricketing memory?
Watching my two sons, Andy and Chris, playing cricket for Addiscombe at Lord's during the club’s 150th anniversary year. (see picture above)

What is your most embarrassing moment on a cricket pitch? I played in a Surrey Trust League match a few years ago. When I came out to bat, my son Andy was umpiring at the bowlers end and my younger son Chris was umpiring at square leg. I was keen to do well, show the boys what their old man could do.

So I faced up to my first ball, determined to dig in. First ball was a good delivery on off stump. I edged it and it flew low to slip. The catch was claimed with a big appeal but there was definitely some doubt about whether it carried. I stood my ground...surely, my oldest son would give me the benefit?

But no, his finger rose and sent me on my way. It was a long walk back to the pavilion….

If you could be any player, past or present, who would it be? The former England all-rounder, Andrew Flintoff. I loved his enthusiastic, dynamic, competitive playing spirit.

Favourite format to watch:
I like to watch them all. I just love to watch cricket being played, but particularly any format where we are beating the Aussies!

Predictions for Addiscombe's 2020 season: I don’t like to make predictions. I just hope that all players and teams, juniors and seniors alike have a successful and enjoyable season.

Why is Addiscombe CC a great club to join? Addo is a friendly, welcoming club with good facilities. We have lots of great people involved trying to make it an even better club as part of our local community.
