7. Ritchie & Aaron Stace, Development XI

Names:
Ritchie (Dad) and Aaron (Son)

Nicknames:
Aaron: Stacey
Ritchie: Ricardo, Staceman or ‘the Mitcham Express’ (but that's just taking the mick)

Club Roles:
Ritchie: U16/Development Squad Manager
Aaron: I have skippered my colts teams for the last 5 years and am now looking forward to our squad playing in the Sunday Development XI

How would you describe yourself as a player?

Richie: Amateur, with a very big A!
Aaron: I am a wicket-keeper/batsman. I like to say I am an 'old fashioned player', which basically means I score slowly!

How long have you played at Addiscombe?

Ritchie: Since 2015 when I started coaching the then Under 11's.
Aaron: Since I was 7 – so that’s 9 years

What is your best cricketing memory?
Richie: Well seeing as I am not really a player, I think I would have to go for taking Aaron to his first Ashes Test match at The Oval last year. We were there on the final day. It was a lovely summer evening when we saw Rooty taking the catch to win the Test and square the series. It was quality - proper dad and son stuff!
Aaron: Watching Surrey in a t20 when I was young with my dad. Surrey needed six off the last ball…the bowler came in…and Azhar Mahmood smashed it over square leg and into the crowd. It was brilliant.

What is your most embarrassing moment on a cricket pitch?
Ritchie: Dropping three simple catches in the ‘Father and Sons’ match in last year’s Cricket Week. It was proper embarrassing!
Aaron: Last season, I walked all the way out to bat, took my guard, looked around the field, got all set to face, looking confident…and then I realised I had forgotten my box. I had to excuse myself and ran back inside the changing room.

If you could be any player, past or present, who would it be?
Ritchie: Has to be Jimmy Anderson, a master of his craft! Also he is known as the ‘Burnley Express’ so we have similar nicknames.
Aaron: I am going for Kevin Pietersen – he has a range of shots I couldn't even dream of playing – but I would be less tricky to manage.

Favourite format to watch:
Ritchie: Test, all day long (in fact 5 of them)
Aaron: Test without a doubt. As I said, I am an old-fashioned type!

Predictions for Addiscombe's 2020 season:
Ritchie: I am really looking forward to my U16 players testing themselves in the Development League on Sundays.
Aaron: I reckon we'll do great - without a doubt it will be a successful season

Why is Addiscombe CC a great club to join?

Ritchie: We have a super location – plus we are a really inclusive club who welcome all newcomers and have the right approach in bringing on the youngsters into the adult teams!
Aaron: Some of the friends I have made at Addiscombe are my best mates, the cricket is brilliant and nowhere has a better atmosphere.
